while I work away on a new baby quilt, I thought I’d show you one of the other gifts I worked on during my little “hiatus”. looking back, it seems like all I’ve been working on has been gifts lately and something about that makes me really happy. I’ve found that I love making unique things for my friends and that kids things top the list.
I’m trying to catch up on some swaps and gifts and realized that I may have skipped over my own mother’s birthday present. her birthday was last month! to be honest though, I did make her a snap tote
already, but then I started to worry about those metal snaps. my mom has both parkinson’s and arthritis (puts things into perspective, no?), so what if my bag was just a constant annoyance to her? that’s not a fun birthday present. so yesterday, after a couple of guilt inducing hints from my mom, I decided to rework the pattern for her.
all of my other friends have been adding coupon codes for the weekend, so I thought I’d join in the fun!
use code FALL20 for 20% off at the shop
. the code is good through monday. have fun!
I first learned to sew because I wanted to make skirts and maybe some dresses. a pretty simple goal I think. I learned over one of my winter breaks and came back to school with my little featherweight and some simple patterns. thankfully I was living in the south, so it didn’t matter that it was january and I wanted to make skirts. after a few skirts, and a dress here and there, my mind started to wander to bags. I am my mother’s daughter after all, which means I have a deep obsession with shoes and bags. making shoes is pretty much out of my league, but bags I can handle. so then I went on to making bags, probably more than one person needs really. I don’t think I have any bags left from that time, I gave most away I think. eventually school got in the way and then my knitting obsession kicked in and bag-making was pushed to the wayside.
