two easy scarves
I sorta told a half lie yesterday. It isn't just busyness that's keeping me from here, but, let's call it, blog-identity confusion. I'm just not sure where I want to take this blog. I'm not worried about knitting vs sewing, but rather how much more of me I want to share on here. I don't want to start writing about every day minutiae, but at the same time there is more to me than knitting. I also don't want to be one of those blogs that thinks they are a trend report and just posts photos from fashion shows or the latest anthropologie sweater. I do sometimes find things I would love to share (like this gorgeous handmade glass jewelry on etsy!) but maybe that's more for twitter? I'm not sure where I'm going with this little train of thought so don't mind me. I know some of you have closed down your blogs or are approaching them differently, what was your thought process? what helped make your final decision? (don't worry! I'm not going to stop blogging!) I would love to hear about it in the comments. in the mean time let's talk scarves, which I didn't think I would need in the middle of june!

was else is there to say about this? the yarn is gorgeous! the pattern easy peasy! I put it away mid may because I thought I wouldn't need it again, but this scarf must really want to be worn because I have to keep taking it out. what is up june?! yesterday was in the 60's and today it's pouring. my little wool scarf and I get to bond at least. want to know something? this was the last knitting I've done. I haven't cast on for anything else nor am I working on any lingering projects. I might have wound some yarn this weekend. maybe. but that's all that happened so far.
ok so you want a really easy scarf? like one you can make in ten minutes? get yourself some shot cotton and just mix and match some colors. sew it up and you're done.
when stef was in philly a couple of months ago I met her a spool sewing before dinner. the wall of shot cotton called to me. I quickly remembered this quick tutorial they posted on their blog and that's all the nudging I need. I ended up making three of them (one for stef, my friend zoe, and me) and I still have a half yard left of turquoise. I'm looking for the perfect orange and then I can make one more for me!

Re: blogging. Do what makes you happy. Different strokes for different folks, I suppose. I don't *get* twitter, so I appreciate links to handmade jewelry, etc.

ooh, i love those scarves, especially the baktus!
i deleted my blog because i felt it was overlapping with flickr and ravelry. i started feeling guilty when i didn't blog, and hence, obligated to write posts even if my heart wasn't in it. but this is your blog and you're free to write about whatever you want! i'm intersted in your sewing, knitting, the latest trends, and whatever else happens in your day-to-day life. have fun with it :)

The scarves are great.
You pose some interesting thoughts regarding blogs. I love reading your postings and I think your blog has a nice balance between the crafting and daily life (aren't they one and the same for you?).
I was late coming to the blog world and I find blogging is hard!! It takes time to come up with the right thing to say. I never know if I am hitting the right notes. Like I said, it's HARD!

I love reading your blog, and I get a lot of great ideas for projects from you. I would never have made Hermia if I hadn't seen it on you, and it's my favorite sweater ever. So thank you.
And the sewing thing - it seems a lot of knitbloggers are branching out. And it's been the kick in the pants I needed to return to something else that has given me so much pleasure and satisfaction over the years.
I guess what I'm saying here is if you write it I will read it with great pleasure.

What should the blog be about? I think it can be about more than FOs.. like any creative endeavor, or weekend expedition, or lovely things you see on etsy. I think post anything you want to talk about and get feedback on. blog posts are for content longer than a tweet..
maybe just try posting about anything for awhile, see how it goes and edit from there. so much easier said than done, from someone who hasn't updated her blog since april :-)

I was going through the same thought process when I switched my blog. The knitting blog was just too limiting. I found myself wanting to blog more about my jewelry and house projects and other crafts and Etsy finds, but since I'd started a Knitting Blog, I didn't think it was appropriate. I thought about keeping the knitting blog and starting a new Other Stuff blog, since I think the best blogs keep their content fairly specific and focused. (In my opinion, Maritza keeps up two blogs with great success!) In the end, I went with one all-encompassing blog, where I feel free to write about whatever strikes my fancy...directionless as it may be...

I still blog, but not as much. I think about it all the time, but getting pictures up is what keeps me back every time, and it seems like blogging is all about pictures. So I decided to start a Twitter feed (kniTV) and I post the everyday knitting stuff there, and use my blog for either WIPs, FOs, or whenever I do have a picture to share.

I've been eyeing baktus quite a while as well. I have not yet decided which yarns to combine. Yours turned out beautifully and convinced me that I need one as well.

Blogs- an interesting dilemma. I often ask myself, who am I writing to... and then the post just kinda falls out of me. I think that overall, blogs are a nice way to stay connected to the world, and they can just be about whatever in your thoughts that day.

I am crazy about the shot cotton scarf. I keep filling a shopping cart with 1/2 yards online, then I remind myself that I have plenty of craft projects underway already and besides my sewing machine needs a tuneup...so tempting.
