performing surgery
after finishing the second sleeve on sunday, I decided that the first one needed a tighter hem...

at first, I was patiently undoing every stitch, until I got bored of that and decided to just cut to the chase if you will.

I knit the new ribbing plus a couple of rows of stockinette and then grafted that to the sleeve.
now the sweater pieces are lounging about after a long soak, waiting for some seaming and neckline action.

Gah. Scissors near handknits always give me the vapors. You're a brave soul.

You are a brave one BUT, if there is anyone I know who could do that with resolve it's you (of course there is the rather large glass of wine I'm sure you had waiting as reinforcement)! ;)

That's such a great solution! How did you do the grafting?
I'm sewing up my sweater for you now. And then I also have some neckband, button band action...

Nice! I love seeing scissors in the same picture as knitting.

I cut the bottom off a sweater once - it's super scary, and that was a little toddler sweater, not cashmere or anything!! But it all works out. Good for you!

You are a brave soul (or nuts wink), but I see you nerve paid off!

Oooo, you grafted! Neat! Hats off to you, I think I'd have done it the long way =)

Okay, don't smack me for this, but you know that you didn't have to graft to do that, right? When you start in a stockinette section, you can just cut and knit down to the cuffs. I only mention it because grafting evenly can be such an ordeal in an area like that. Or were you trying to maintain the same cast-on edge?

I can't believe you cut cashmere! I don't think I could ever do that. I hope it turns out just the way you want it to!

I have seen my mom cut a knit garment... I don't get how you can do that without ruining it completely???
