I got nothing for ya

really, I don't or, rather, haven't. hence the absence. there's been little to no knitting in the last month. that isn't entirely true, there's been 'halted knitting' which doesn't make for much blog fodder. I can also blame being busy and lazy at the same time (trust me, it's very confusing being me), I mean everyday I wake up not knowing what day it is. it took me an hour or two before it hit me it's thursday not tuesday. (oh look at that, it's the 21st. crap.) or I can blame feeling pretty bitter (makes sense doesn't it) about certain things and not wanting to come here and rant. don't get me wrong, I've had some awesome things happen this year, but with that also comes some negativity that I'm pretty tired of. so maybe this is all a long winded way of saying "I'm tired!".

anywho, let's talk about that pile-o-knits on my kitchen table:

this poor shawl has been 'mid-tink' since July or some nonsense like that. I finally put it out of it's misery earlier this week. I don't feel too bad about it since it's basically been sitting next to my t.v. since summer and I don't think I ever loved the yarn to begin with. the colors are great but the yarn turned my needles and hands purple! I washed the yarn in cold water and it just kept on bleeding. needless to say this yarn won't be headed back into my stash. I already chose what yarn I'm going to try it in next time, now I just need to find the time.

oh puffy sleeved cardi, how I love thee! I felt like I was about to run out of yarn on this one so I stopped mid-row frustrated and have been ignoring it ever since (it's been a month and counting). there is hope though, I found out I can get more yarn soon. let's keep our fingers crossed.

hats are the bane of my existence and I'm not sure why. I can knit sweaters, lace, socks etc but hats?! there's always something wrong with them or they take me forever. I finished the yak hat (no pics) that turned out way too big for me, but luckily it fits the boyfriend. now he wants another hat, with a tighter fit and thicker for skiing. this is where the double knit hat above comes in. sounds good right? but, there's always a but:

1. I hate the green yarn I'm using (nashua creative focus worsted), it's the thing sweaty hands are made of.
2. I couldn't get into the right knitting rhythm so my hands were hurting a lot at the beginning.
3. It takes twice as long as a regular hat....duh.
4. Every time I work on it I hear "I hope it fits!" coming out of the peanut gallery. bastard.

it'll get done soon since we're planning on skiing around new year's. I swear though, this will be the last hat I knit!

I promise I'll post again tomorrow! I have an fo and some awesome knitted gifts I need to show off. there's the rest of that pile too!

You might not have much to show, but it's always fun to look at your pics!

I just finished a double knit hat and it took freakin' FOREVER with more than one row needing to be de-knitted. I used Alison's double knit cap pattern and it turned out really great. Perfect for Frank's head.

Hats are also the bane of my existence. Every time I try to make a non-ribbed hat it ends up being huge and I have to frog and start over. I can't understand why I find them so difficult when I can crank out socks, mitts, etc.

If you don't have any plans for the bleeding yarn, let me know. I can always use more yarn and don't mind crocking. :)

Sorry you're feeling so icky. You'll get back to good knits. Some time off might be good. I always go through a funk post-holidays. It'll get better soon!!! Get out of those hats, girl!

She's aaaaliiiiiiive! What pattern are you using for the hat?

I've missed your posts Yahaira! I am sorry to hear about the yucky stuff that has happened this year. I hope you can get some rest over the holidays...take care!

Glad to see you posting :) Good luck with the hat... I hate hats, too. They're just always wrong when I try (and I keep trying!)

but we still luv ya!
Maybe a bath in some Malabrigo could ease the ickies.

Even your hated ufo's are beautifully photographed!

Tell the peanut gallery to shut it or we will come at them with pointy sticks aimed at their eyes! ;)

yahaira-
i hope the new year bombards you with positivity. if you need me to rough some people up, just let me know.
and girl, you sure know how to make a wip pile look purty.

Bummer that purple was so badly behaved, because it's lovely!! Maybe a soak and nuke in vinegar???

woo hoo welcome back. you were missed.
stinkco about the bleeding yarn, and I'm with Leah about the peanut gallery's cracks. tell him that there are wild women with pointy sticks aimed in his diection. beware criticizing the knitter.
the puffy sleeve is gorgeous. more yarn coming? Yay!

Oh my, that is frustrating.

Welcome back :) Sorry to hear you've had issues, both RL and knitting. Hope it eases off and that you get a chance to relax and rest and enjoy yourself, and that the skiing works out :D But as has already been said here hundreds of times, any photos you post of anything always come out fab, and even rejected knitting is lovely to look at.

why are hats so hard?? I can never get them to fit right - I can do socks (colorwork even!), sweaters, etc - but a hat....how frustrating!

Glad you found more yarn for the cardi!

Everyone gets the right to a knitting break...and oddly enough I know how exactly how you feel, being busy and lazy at the same time :) But I am glad you are around!

what about that purple thing at the top of the pile? are we just supposed to forget about that one? it looks so beautiful!

Thanks for the uplifting post. It made my day. You are not alone in the knitting funk. My unfinished projects are an embarrassment. Thanks for some much needed motivation!

Crabby and bitter? You? I'm shocked. The photos are lovely, as usual. I think the holidays are conspiring against us this year, but good things will come in 2007. I hope.

Hi, Yahaira. So good to see your work! I'm lovin' that sweater. I've been out of it for awhile but am back to knitting and working at that stash!

I'm sorry to hear the Grey's Corner did not work for you.. I made a lovely shawl from it myself and had no problems with the colors bleeding... perhaps a bad batch... what a shame.. it really is lovely stuff when it is knit up nicely!
