a recap

I swear I had planned to post last week, I had even started writing!, but when a friend is heartbroken I rather hang out with them than to sit in front of a computer (though there's always a ton of that). wouldn't you?

so where were we? something with socks would be fitting...

before and after

joelene claims to have told me her short row trick a long time ago, but we have yet to find any concrete proof of this so I'm going to stick with my claim 'no you didn't!" claim. the top pics show the way I was doing my short rows before, with some teasing out of wraps and maybe some k3tog's (tbl) and p3tog's thrown in. umm, yeah, I still wasn't getting them to match and I can still see some holes in it. the bottom pics show jo's way which is so. much. better! on my hands and my soul. ahhh, no holes!

I'll have to redo the heel on this poor sock, but I'm having fun knitting another dragon set. I need hurry though since this one isn't for me.

another quickie sock, this time with a picot cuff. I'm already at the toes, been there for weeks actually, but I can't decide what kind of toe to do. this seems to happen to me every time, I suck at making easy decisions. I'll just have to look at one of my books and see what works with the stitch count.

omg it's not a sock!

calm down, I know! it's crazy that I'm actually knitting something that isn't a sock (and taking a picture of myself that doesn't include my feet!), but I started this poor sweater (simple knitted bodice) labor day weekend while the bf drove us to his parents' house. I often get these grand plans that I'll sit and knit on a long weekend and end up with a sweater. I never factor in other people and their plans for my time. needless to say I didn't pick up my needles that whole weekend. I finally started working on it two weeks ago when a certain somebody started, um, "reminding" me about it....every day : )

this was my progress at the beginning of last week, I've managed to finish both sleeves since then. all I have to do is pick up the neck stitches and I should have a finished sweater that's perfect for this lovely mild weather we're having (these sunny fall days are my favorite). I chose to knit it with a cotton (kona bay pima cotton) for a more casual look and feel. this is my first time knitting a cotton sweater and people started freaking me out , warning me on how heavy it would be. nope, not with this yarn. it's actually pretty light, though I imagine it will stretch out a little like any cotton would. I'll see how it goes once I'm actually done and wearing it around town. knitting it has been great, just the speed I needed right now, the fit is right on, and the cotton has a cool, silky hand to it.

the back, because there's always somebody that asks about the back

I wish I had posted sooner, there were all these things I wanted to link to and show ya, but right now I don't remember any of it. once it comes to me again I'll post -I'm not going to say when though since certain smart asses start messaging me about it!

vintage floral - mottled

before I go, a little extra yarn porn for socktoberfest. my order from piece of beauty arrived the day after I posted about it. I've been good about not casting on right away - I don't know how much longer I can hold out for. the yarn is really soft, with a beautiful ply. and the colors, well the image speaks for itself I think.

oOoh. socks! pretty! i've been knitting lots of socks lately (that's an understatement), and i've been avoiding short row heels because the ones i made have that whole mismatched holey problem. i'll have to try that slip-wraps-knit-stitch-and-pass-slipped-wraps-over technique. auryte!

oh, and can i just say your yarn porn showcase does nothing to aide in my money-saving endeavors? I'm WEAK, i tell you. WEAK!

I will have to give that technique a go...my last (and only) pair of short row heels left much to be desired!

Your SKB looks great!

Yeah, those smart asses better be more patient! Shooooot.

holy crap! a sweater! the fit looks so perfect on you. i can't wait to see the final result.

I love the colors in your sock pics!

that heel is so damn cool. must try it out on my next pair of socks.

and that bodice is coming along just swimmingly. it's gonna be a stunner when it's done. can't wait!

Per your last post, I saw the link to from Piece of Beauty and spied the lovely Vintage Floral colourway...nice choice!

The SKB is lookin' great!

yep, that misocrafty technique is da bomb for sure. i'm definitely converted now!

love the sweater. it looks comfy and perfect for fall.

Nice socks, lots and lots of nics socks, I love all your colours, and omg a sweater, love the detail and colour change around your waist it looks beautiful...

*picks jaw up off of floor*

You had me with the first sock pictures, and the SKB is looking really neat, but that sock yarn... *drool*

The bodice / sweater is lovely - what a cute detail with the contrasting lace waist.

Cute sweater!! Looking forward to the final picture. :D And all the sock yarn pictured (kntted or not) is lovely.

the sweater is gonna be so cute -- and you look super slim. i'm sorry your friend is heartbroken, but i'm sure you were quite a comfort.

I know, long weekends staying with relatives never involve any knitting! The top looks really pretty though, and the socks are super.

Yeah, yeah, lovely socks as always, but the star of the post is that sweater. Supercute!

I am so trying that SR technique!!!!

Great sweater - I love the lace insert - makes a basic sweater not so basic!

My stripey yarn should be here soon and then I'm going to try that "new" short-row technique. I can hardly wait. The sweater looks great - I can't believe you've been holding out on me on that.

That short row technique looks awesome!! Thanks for sharing it. Maybe I'll give it a try on my second knee high!

The sweater is still lovely! I can't wait to see it all done up. I really love the contrasting yarn colors!

I can't believe you aren't knitting up that sock yarn yet! It's stunning!!!

Thanks for the short row tips! That Woolarina sock yarn is to die for!

Inquiring minds are curious what yarn you are using for the sweater? It is certainly a pattern that is on my list of things to knit this fall and cotton sounds like a good option to me.

love the sweater !it looks like it would go with a million things I own (hint hint) - and the socks.. well they're purtty too :-)

I love the contrasting bands on the sweater! It looks completely different from all the others out there. Can't wait to see it finished! And I'm definitely going to try out that heel on my Lost socks :)

I love the sweater...beautiful!

Thanks for the short row trick! My heels always look like crap...
And I'm loving the simple bodice with the contrast waist band.

Thanks for taking those short-row pics for Jo! I tried it last night and it works great! I still need practice, but there's always the second sock for that :).

ah, yes, the sweater... so much more lovely than the sock! really, it looks great on you.

I love how you are doing that sweater in two colors.

It already looks great on you!

you are the best advertising for glampyre, yahaira! i would also like to voice my vote for seeing the simple knitted bodice as your next FO. your grey-black combo is so victorian-chic!

sorry this comment is so belated, but i'm just catching up with blog reading, since now i can only do it on the weekends :(
