argh

it's obvious I have a problem, it seems all I can knit are socks. I can lie and say it's all I have time to knit, but I forfeited that excuse when I casted on for my fourth sock. yep, four socks. no, not two pairs of socks. four. seperate. socks.
we'll just focus on one today, some cara inspired knee-highs. I wanted to make the sock hop socks into knee socks, but I wasn't sure if I had enough yarn. ever since then I've been kinda obsessed, seeing them everywhere and talking about them all the time (just ask Illanna). finally this past weekend I started some socks with the new yarn pirate yarn, not really sure what pattern I was going to follow. I guess I never found out, so stockinette it is. then it became a 'how tall can I make these socks" challenge. I started with 4 ounces and so far I still have 2.6 ounces in the skein. will I be able to get to my knee with exactly half the yarn? I still have no idea. I'm scared that once I go beyond the 2 ounce limit I won't stop. thigh highs here I come!

I'm pretty much in love with this yarn, it kinda reminds me of STR, with it's tight twist, but thinner and a little softer. I'm knitting with 2 mm's and started with a 60 stitch count. right now I'm at 72 stitches and I guess I'll increase two more times and decide what happens then.
notice the color I chose isn't pink? we're making headway in one battle over here!

Hi Yahaira! I really want to make knee highs with the new cashmere sock from pure knits. But I have pretty shapely calves....a whopping 19" with 8" ankles. Have a good pattern but not sure if it will be enough yarn. Do you know if anyone has made knee highs from this?
I lurve the brown and blue!

Wow those pink socks are so.... WAIT A MINUTE! THOSE ARE NOT PINK! I love the way the non-pink colors are striping, especially the blue and other not-pink-related colors. Your socks are fantastic. I love them.

hey wow! those look great. heh. it's the first time i've seen that colorway in action...is that wrong? anyway, i have a few partial skeins of Hannah that had an unfortunate accident with the ball winder. if you dont make it to your knee let me know and they're yours! (they're about 300yd a piece)

Yey for thigh high socks!
If you find you're making too many socks for your two feet, I can always take a pair off your hands if I have to, you know, just to help you make room in your sox drawer ;)
Hope you're having a good weekend xx

what is it with knitbloggers' abilities to drag everyone else into their sock-knitting obsession?! i was making perfectly good progress on my other socks when suddenly gripped with an urgent NEED to knit picot socks!
those colors are yummy! like blueberries & chocolate.

Those look great as "plain" socks. I have been sitting back admiring everyones knee highs waiting to make a pair of my own! You'd be surprised how far 1/2 oz will get you. Go for it!

I love the color combo on thise - they will be perfect for the fall - don't you think?
Posted by: Paloma | August 16, 2006 11:45 AM
Hey nice socks!! I like the colorway and you are DIE HARD to knit them that high. I woulda quit midlength like I quit these Baudelaire's I knit (pattern from Knitty).
BTW, if your scale weighs in grams, you'll get a more accurate weight. :D

K, first, you're hilarious! I loved your thoughts about your knee-length sock project. Second, thanks for finally having a pair of socks that I'm actually excited to make! I've looked many places online and all the socks look ugly...not yours! thanks again!
