argh

wipkneesock.jpg

it's obvious I have a problem, it seems all I can knit are socks. I can lie and say it's all I have time to knit, but I forfeited that excuse when I casted on for my fourth sock. yep, four socks. no, not two pairs of socks. four. seperate. socks.

we'll just focus on one today, some cara inspired knee-highs. I wanted to make the sock hop socks into knee socks, but I wasn't sure if I had enough yarn. ever since then I've been kinda obsessed, seeing them everywhere and talking about them all the time (just ask Illanna). finally this past weekend I started some socks with the new yarn pirate yarn, not really sure what pattern I was going to follow. I guess I never found out, so stockinette it is. then it became a 'how tall can I make these socks" challenge. I started with 4 ounces and so far I still have 2.6 ounces in the skein. will I be able to get to my knee with exactly half the yarn? I still have no idea. I'm scared that once I go beyond the 2 ounce limit I won't stop. thigh highs here I come!

hannah true colors

I'm pretty much in love with this yarn, it kinda reminds me of STR, with it's tight twist, but thinner and a little softer. I'm knitting with 2 mm's and started with a 60 stitch count. right now I'm at 72 stitches and I guess I'll increase two more times and decide what happens then.

notice the color I chose isn't pink? we're making headway in one battle over here!

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO thigh highs! ;)

I am in love with that yarn. You have to go for the thigh highs!

I third the thigh highs!! That would be awesome!!

And what's wrong with that :) Just knit socks!

Thigh highs!!! :)

GO FOR IT! I can promise I won't be doing thigh highs. Too itchy for me. Glad to make your life a little bit crazier! ;-)

oooh, i love the richness of those colors! brown and blue are always nice together.

Hey, knit what you want! If it's socks, then so be it.

Yes, thigh highs in the blue + brown yarn! Love it!

Hi Yahaira! I really want to make knee highs with the new cashmere sock from pure knits. But I have pretty shapely calves....a whopping 19" with 8" ankles. Have a good pattern but not sure if it will be enough yarn. Do you know if anyone has made knee highs from this?
I lurve the brown and blue!

Wow those pink socks are so.... WAIT A MINUTE! THOSE ARE NOT PINK! I love the way the non-pink colors are striping, especially the blue and other not-pink-related colors. Your socks are fantastic. I love them.

hey wow! those look great. heh. it's the first time i've seen that colorway in action...is that wrong? anyway, i have a few partial skeins of Hannah that had an unfortunate accident with the ball winder. if you dont make it to your knee let me know and they're yours! (they're about 300yd a piece)

I have some Yarn Pirate in the stash, compliments of Georgia! I can't wait to use it - especially after seeing how beautifully yours are knitting up, Y!

ooohhh - stripey knee socks - me too , me too... perhaps I'll stop spinning this weekend and knit along.
that yarn is gorgeous!

Nice colors! I agree with the thigh highs. That sock store has some awesome knee socks, thanks for the link!

I love the socks! Yay for color variation! I can relate to the sock addiction. I can't stop casting on either!

you torture me with your sock fabulous-ness! those may not be pink, but they are awesome.

Yey for thigh high socks!

If you find you're making too many socks for your two feet, I can always take a pair off your hands if I have to, you know, just to help you make room in your sox drawer ;)

Hope you're having a good weekend xx

It's easy to get stuck on socks! I love the colors...pefect for the end of summer.

Thigh highs would be so cool!

ah, but i bought the yarn pirate in pink, perhaps in your honor. can't cast on with it until i finish mom's sweater ...

I can't possibly be on the right blog - where's the pink?! ;)

I love those rich fall colors. You are seriously addicted to socks! :)

what is it with knitbloggers' abilities to drag everyone else into their sock-knitting obsession?! i was making perfectly good progress on my other socks when suddenly gripped with an urgent NEED to knit picot socks!

those colors are yummy! like blueberries & chocolate.

Those look great as "plain" socks. I have been sitting back admiring everyones knee highs waiting to make a pair of my own! You'd be surprised how far 1/2 oz will get you. Go for it!

DAMN thats some beautiful yarn

Yahaira, I received my Kaalund order today and it is freaking gorgeous. Thanks so much. xox, J.

Wow- that colorway is gorgeous! PS: It's not yur fault - socks are addicting!!

Love that colorway, it's knitting up nicely!

those socks
(sock)
are so cool
i could
scream!

I love the color combo on thise - they will be perfect for the fall - don't you think?

Hey nice socks!! I like the colorway and you are DIE HARD to knit them that high. I woulda quit midlength like I quit these Baudelaire's I knit (pattern from Knitty).

BTW, if your scale weighs in grams, you'll get a more accurate weight. :D

K, first, you're hilarious! I loved your thoughts about your knee-length sock project. Second, thanks for finally having a pair of socks that I'm actually excited to make! I've looked many places online and all the socks look ugly...not yours! thanks again!
