some yummy yarn, and a monday give-away

I bet my mailman reads this blog and is dying to delurk. I imagine one day, while dropping off some package, he'll casually wear a scarf or hat he knit so that maybe I'll say something. I'm sure I'll ask if someone made it for him and he'll shyly say, "oh this? I just knit this one night while watching {insert one of my favorite shows here}. it really didn't take long." after that, we'll start an impromptu knit night, where we'll proceed to eat, gossip, and maybe knit. I'll start to get my mail even faster, and maybe he'll hookup with a free scale........no, I haven't gone insane. but with the amount of yarn coming into this house, my mailman might as well start knitting. look at this beauty he brought me today:

pureknitsyarn.jpg

more striping yarn, this time in a pureknits colorway!! this is the test skein, but I can't imagine it getting any better. the colors are exactly what I wanted. I'll be swatching it tonight to see how the colors stripe and once I finalize it, the yarn will be online within a week or so. can you stand it?

it's no secret that I've been going sock yarn crazy and a few people have asked me what my favorite sock yarn is. I'm thinking I can compare what I have in the stash or what I've used and maybe post a little comparison on this here, old blog. would more of you be interested in this? I think I want to pick up a couple more yarns (for comparisons sake of course), anything specific you want me to look at? I may be able to write this in a week or so.

back to my mailman, he also took some packages with him today. last monday's give-away finally got shipped, and it's already monday again! the rules are here and the goods are below (I'm still deciding on shippim rules):

blue_silver.jpg

TAKEN!! a blue, sheer fabric with some silver thrown in. not sure how many yards, but it feels like a good amount. I must have bought this in my layered skirt phase.

lace.jpg

TAKEN!! a tiny amount of a sweet white fabric. it has hearts people!

redwhiteblack.jpg

TAKEN!! I must have really loved flowers at some time, because here's another flowery fabric. I made my first skirt ever out of this cotton fabric. think of it as a little piece of history.

sheer.jpg

TAKEN!! another sheer fabric, in oranges and browns. the colors are a lot richer than in the image.

toille.jpg

TAKEN!! a small amount of toile, maybe you can use it as an accent?

Comments

Oooooh.. 1st choice, sheer blue. 2nd choice, sweet white with the hearts!

Love the pureknits sock yarn. now THAT is what I call neopolitan!

Oooh, oooh - I would love to give the sweet white fabric a wonderful home! I'm getting ready to start knitting dolls for my 4 year old and this fabric would make a lovely doll dress.

As for the yarn - I would be VERY interested to hear you take on, let's say, a top 10 of sorts. The usual suspects - Lornas, Cherry Tree, STR (we both know about that one), Koigu, knitpicks, etc. I already know we're both "discriminating" on our sock yarns, so your take on each of these (as well as any others you love/hate) would be very valuable indeed!

Thanks! ;} kc

My mailman must feel exactly the same way as yours does! Maybe they need a support group...

I will take the black and red flowery fabric off your hands, if it's still free. I have the perfect postcard idea for you, too!

That is the PERFECT pureknits colorway!! I can't wait to see what you knit up with it!

That Pureknits colorway is perfect!

I'd like the last two if they are still available.

I'd like to see reviews of Opal, Mountain Colors Bearfoot, and Louet Sales Pearl.

Dang, I missed the Monday giveaway again. Also, I have yet to knit a pair of socks...

Ooh yahaira, the pureknits yarn is yummy ! Imagine wearing stuff made with it and you'd be thinking of your shop 24 hrs a day... ;-)
Also, I'm in love with your orange/brown fabric (you know how much I love orange by now, don't you..? ;-) ) But shipping to France could be a problem tho... could paypal you the cost..? Let me know...

oops, hadn't read all the comments, I see sbdy's already claimed it, forget about it ! :-P

OMG, I'm going nuts for that colourway!
Love the fabric oranges and brown fabric ;)

Ooh I'd like the Toile print :)

the pureknits sock yarn is super pretty! Can't wait to see it knit up. as a fellow sock knitting addict, I'd be interested in a sock yarn comparison. maybe some hard-working basics (regia, jawoll) versus the luxury yarns (koigu, STR, sundara) versus the cheapies (knitpicks, elann) or you know, whatever is hanging around your stash :-)

mmmmm, that sock yarn looks DEE-licious! it matches both pureknits AND your blog :) great planning.

you should definitely get some of marie (brooklyn handspun)'s superwash sock yarn for your comparison. it's amazing stuff and she gives SO much of it!

I'd love a sock yarn comparison, it might actually encourage me to try something else.
Now why do you come up with colorways that make me think of rasperry chocolate cake or a neapolitan ice cream sandwich? I'm trying to keep off the sugar for awhile...!

Mmm, I need some of that yarn... must order some!

I think I will have dreams about the lovely yarn tonight... mmmm.

Missed seeing you this weekend, but I know things were busy! Stitches is a must :)

That yarn looks like delicious candy, lickable even. And I would be SO down for some consumer reports on sock yarn (not that I have any time to knit!! Whats up with that??)

But... is your mailman cute?

That colorway is lovely!

That sock yarn is so pretty!! I would love to hear your reviews of sock yarn. I've only knit a few pairs of socks and it seems everyone has a different favorite yarn so I'm a little overwhelmed by all the choices!

That yarn is beautiful! I love it. Now if I only knew how to knit socks... ;)

holy moly, that yarn looks so good, I could eat it! I swear *drools*

Purdy yarn.

Darn it! I missed the give away... I love that sock yarn - real pretty!

darn!
i missed the give-away!
:(
i am gonna be
on it
next week!
fabulous sock yarn...
i love the colors!

That yarn is really gorgeous, but then all your work is really gorgeous! I've been perusing your yarn shops and wanted to stop by your blog and say hi! What a beautiful new design! Diana is really fabulous, what made you decide to switch out from Blogger?
